We will rock you..
Another weekend over, and another week begins.. Weekends have become such a cherished possession these days, an oasis in the drab, mundane routine of life.. this one was really special because of Queen, arguable the greatest among all bands.. I had always been a big fan right from college days when Queen used to be one of the major accomplices to late night assignments.. but over the years, American Idol (and its Indian counterparts) took over and Queen was pushed into the background.. This Saturday we went to a performance of 'We will rock you', a West end musical based on the songs of Queen, which is currently touring Hong Kong.. The story was no great shakes, the acting ok-ok, but the songs more than made up for everything.. It brought back all the euphoria, energy, ecstasy that good music always evokes.. All time favorites like the eponymous 'We will rock you", "We are the champions", "Crazy little thing called love", "Its a kind of magic" and of course the "Bohemian Rhapsody" - the latter being a revelation to me.. I had always dismissed the song quite lightly earlier, but the musical sure made me appreciate the beauty of the melody that has entranced millions. And then there were some songs that I had only given a cursory hearing too earlier - "Somebody to love", "I want it all", "Only the good die young" and so many more.. We spent all of Saturday humming revisiting all of these songs.. and other college favorites like Pink Floyd (another revelation to me actually), Beatles and the like. .. these songs are still playing in my head, and actually made Monday quite tolerable! A great Saturday dedicated to rock and roll - the day the music came back alive for us!
